The Director of Animal Shelter oversees two (2) shelter facilities.
The annual operating budget is $6+ million.
The Director's duties include, managing department operations of animal welfare and control and the animal shelter; providing policy guidance to the president in the area of animal welfare/control/public health; directing administrative and field staff persons assigned to this department; formulating, implementing and evaluating operating policies, procedures and programs relative to animal welfare/control/public health services with the advice and consent of the president; preparing reports on departmental operations, evaluating performance against established objectives, and special reports on operating problems or plans as required for review by the president; coordinating budget formulation and management activities in the animal shelter department; coordinating activities with animal shelter advisory board and its mandated authorities; and carrying out all duties as assigned by the Parish President.
Salary range is $60,783 to $94,295. Minimum requirements: shall be qualified by education, training, and experience relative to the animal welfare/control/shelter profession and shall devote his/her entire efforts to the purpose for which this department has been created.
The director of the animal shelter shall possess the following qualifications: (1) a Bachelor's Degree supplemented by at least three (3) years of paid professional administrative and/or management experience, which includes two (2) years relative to animal welfare/control/shelter profession or related experience; or (2) an equivalent combination of education, management and ten (10) years experience in the field of animal control or welfare.
The successful candidate shall possess and maintain a valid Louisiana Driver's License or have the ability to secure one within ten (10) working days of hire.
Knowledge of effective management and supervisory techniques and procedures; commitment to providing excellence in public service; proficient verbal/writing communication skills; ability to work within a culturally diverse community; provide leadership in developing and implementing policy initiatives for Jefferson Parish; familiarity with Local/State/Federal laws applicable to animal shelter operations; working knowledge of Outlook, Word and Excel computer programs; knowledge of personnel policies, supervision principles, budget development, administration principles, and contract development and administration.
