Biological & Lab Safety Officer
LSU Health Sciences Center - New Orleans is seeking dynamic professional to participate in the development and execution of the safety programs at our educational facilities, located in the Medical District and the City Park area of New Orleans.
Incumbent is responsible for managing the biological and laboratory safety programs of about 110 Principal investigators and the Animal Care Department. Providing a high level of initiative and independence, incumbent must have a working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, NIH, Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality, and CDC rule and guidelines, as they relate to biological safety.
Required Education & Experience: Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, or related field, with a minimum of 2 years' Professional experience working in a biology, health and safety, and occupational safety or related field.
Required Licenses and Certifications: Must have a current driver's license.
Required Knowledge & Skills: Must have knowledge of OSHA, NIH, and CDC rules and guidelines as they relate to Biological Safety; Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access); Ability to make confidentiality; Ability to prioritize work relative to deadlines; Familiarity with computer applications pertinent to essential functions of the job; Visual acuity; Manual dexterity; Ability to work long hours; Instate travel to Baton Rouge.
Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in biology, chemistry, or related field. Certification from the American Biological Safety Association (Registered Bio-safety Professional, or Certified Biological Safety Professional), or Certification from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (Certified Safety Professional).
