INSTRUCTOR OR ASSISTANT PROFESSOR – CLINICAL – Posting # F00689P; Position # 00020747

Louisiana State University Health Science Center, LSUHSC, is in search of an experienced Dental Hygienist (minimum of 5 years of full-time experience) with at least a bachelor’s degree in dental hygiene to teach and supervise a dental hygiene site for the LSUHSC dental hygiene program in Alexandria, Louisiana.  A Master’s degree in dental hygiene or education is preferred.   The program consists of 12 students in total, 6 students in each of the two clinical dental hygiene years.  The site supervisor would be responsible for all aspects of the program at that location.  They will be calibrated with faculty at the main campus in New Orleans and will both teach and manage the 5-unit clinic.  Other duties include ensuring maintenance of all CODA standards and the delivery of didactic, pre-clinical, lab and clinical aspects of the program.  The site supervisor will schedule and organize part time faculty, supervising dentists, student patient care schedules and enrichment sites.  The site supervisor will stay in communication with main campus faculty to oversee student outcomes and exams and will oversee and report on all local dental hygiene faculty and staff and manage the need for repairs, equipment, and supplies.

Pre-clinical, clinical, radiology lab, dental materials labs, courses, and local anesthesia lab are all taught at that location and this faculty member will be part of the teaching team in place to provide chairside teaching.  Some travel is involved both locally to dental offices and clinics to establish and/or maintain sites for enrichment and to New Orleans for graduation and other type events.

Must have a Bachelor’s degree and be a Registered Dental Hygienist in good standing.  Experience must include at least 28 hrs. a week for 5 years in clinical practice or in weekly combination with dental hygiene education. Must have possession of or eligibility for a dental hygiene license in Louisiana and possession of or eligibility for local anesthesia and nitrous oxide permit in Louisiana; Must have possession of a valid driver’s license.  Must be CPR Certified.
