Summary:
The Patient Access Assistant is responsible for supporting patient and visitor information procedures and to support the Patient Access department in daily communication operations to support the NOHS mission and values.

High School Diploma or equivalent is required
Experience/Skills:
Sufficient previous experience in the area of customer relations in a hospital or similar setting
Excellent people and communication skills, pleasing telephone voice, ability to react instantly, ability to handle more that one task efficiently, ability to meet and greet the public in a professional manner

Responsibilities:
Screen calls and takes messages when appropriate
Maintain confidentiality regarding patients, physicians, employees and other hospital-related business acquired due to the nature of the job.
Maintain established hospital and departmental policies and procedures, safety and infection control procedures, and quality assurance procedures.
Attend in-services and other required meetings.
Maintain the policies for nondisclosure of information regarding NPP patients
General cleaning duties of the work place, including daily disinfectant of all equipment.Assist in training new personnel.
Demonstrate competency in age-specific criteria as applicable to job scope.Work other shifts when necessary.
Assist in the care of departmental equipment and supplies.
Provide assistance guidance and directions to visitors, patients, employees, and physicians. Ascertain the nature of their business, assist and direct to various locations in the hospital when appropriate. Call for an escort when necessary
.Receive messages, flowers, and other items. Verify that the patient has not been discharged and arrange for delivery of items to patient or appropriate personnel when necessary.
Address patient mail to their room or home address if they have been discharged.
Prepare religion census for Clergy and Eucharistic Minister programs.
Arrange for the delivery of a NOHS gift for patients who have birthdays during their hospital stay.
Perform all other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Follows North Oaks Health System’s compliance program and all federal and state regulatory guidelines.
Demonstrate competency in age-specific criteria as applicable to job scope.
Compose, transcribe, and process correspondence and prepare documents for Patient Access management.
Assist in the maintenance of department email groups and staff telephone and address/information lists.
Support Patient Access functions through forms ordering.
Updates patient demographic information as instructed and assists patients with EMR access.
