Summary:
The Mid Level Provider is a healthcare provider who, working collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary health team, is responsible for providing comprehensive medical care to acutely ill patients in the hospital setting under the direction of a supervising physician. Provides advanced clinical care to patients on the shock/trauma service as assigned, and under the direction of the Medical Director and other collaborative practice physicians. Provides care according to established policies, protocols, bylaws, and rules and regulations of the medical center and medical staff. Seeks opportunities for professional growth through participation in continuing education, staff development and hospital committees.

Specialized or Technical Education Required:For Physician Assistant: High school diploma or equivalent; Master’s degree,baccalaureate degree or a minimum of two years of college credits; Graduate from CAAHEP-approved program; Current NCCPA certification; Hold a current Louisiana Physician Assistant license in the state of Louisiana and comply with any applicable state statutory or regulatory requirements concerning the practice of Physician Assistants.For Nurse Practitioner: High school diploma or equivalent; Successful completion of a Nurse Practitioner master's degree in a nursing program in the applicant's specialty area or demonstration of successful completion a formal postgraduate Nurse Practitioner track or program (within the applicant's specialty area) within a school of nursing granting graduate-level academic credit (e.g., graduate, nonmatriculating program). Hold a current state license as advanced practice nurse in the state of Louisiana, and comply with any applicable state statutory or regulatory requirements concerning the advanced practice of nursing*ATLS preferred, or must complete within 3 months of hire.3. Must have active DEA license within in six months of hire. Maintenance of DEA license is required.4. Responsibilities:
1. Assesses health status of the trauma patient through complete physical examination and medical history, which may include the psychosocial, cognitive and personal assets and limitations of the patient/family.2. Establishes medical diagnoses; orders and evaluates diagnostic studies; performs and monitors therapeutic procedures; assesses and/or recommends follow-up plans under the direction of a supervising physician.3. Records and documents health appraisal data necessary to maintain, coordinate and/or expedite required services.4. Assumes responsibility and accountability for time management, professional relationships and interpersonal interactions.5. Designs individualized management plans in collaboration with physicians, staff nurses, and other health care professionals for various patho-physiologic statuses common to the trauma patient.6. Performs admissions, discharges, and triage of patients as needed, in collaboration with medical staff, and as defined in the allied health standards of practice.7. Documents in the medical record according to policy and medical staff rules and regulations, with regards to content, notes, orders, security and confidentiality.8. Works with program staff, medical director and collaborative physicians to ensure accurate and efficient documentation to support accurate professional charges and coding for services provided to assigned patients.9. Manages care of the trauma patient within mutually agreed upon protocols by Medicine and Nursing including emergency resuscitation, prescribing appropriate treatment measures and initiate a continuing treatment regime for health maintenance.10. Acts as liaison and utilizes teaching/learning principles coupled with an expert clinical knowledge to promote and provide education to the staff, patient, and patient’s family.11. Promotes superior customer service by serving as a role model; maintaining good working relationships with patients, visitors, physicians, and employees; promoting a sense of teamwork within the program; and timely follow-up with patients, family members, physicians and staff.12. Collaborates with Director of Certified Programs regarding administrative issues that require intervention and/or resolution.13. Participates in trauma program initiatives related to verification and designation as a Level 2 Trauma Center.14. Assists with trauma clinic for patient follow-up as indicated.15. Demonstrates skills and knowledge necessary to provide care to trauma patients including knowledge of growth and development, the ability to obtain and interpret information, to identify patient needs and to provide care needed.16. Provides formal and informal trauma-related in-services and educational programs in which expert knowledge base is shared with staff.17. Adheres to medical staff bylaws as applicable to advanced clinical practice under allied health policies.18. Maintains required credentials and performs approved procedures competently, per credentialing approval.19. Maintains and enhances a current level of knowledge relative to advanced clinical professional practice by maintaining professional affiliations, keeping abreast of the latest practice trends, meet continuing education requirements necessary for licensure and utilizes, promotes, and initiates research in clinical practice.20. Coordinates select projects/ programs, including development and implementation of clinical pathways, guidelines and protocols, as assigned by the Trauma Medical Director and/or Director of Certified Programs.21. Utilizes effective verbal and written communication skills with patients and colleagues.22. Takes on-call shifts as indicated, including after hours and weekends.23. Follows North Oaks Health System’s Compliance Program and Federal and State Regulatory guidelines.
