GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Assists the attorneys in the Housing Law Unit with intake, outreach, reporting, and other duties as assigned for our COVID-19 Eviction Defense Project.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Staff member is under the supervision of the Managing Attorney of the Housing Law Unit and may receive assignments from other staff attorneys in the Housing Law Unit.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: None

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma is required. College degree preferred. Bilingualism in Spanish preferred. Intake/Outreach Specialist for the Housing Unit in New Orleans. This position will be for one year to help support the surge in demand in evictions and landlord-tenant disputes.

MAJOR DUTIES: 1. Client eligibility screening and intake for housing clients for telephone, scheduled in-person appointments, and walk-ins. 2. Data entry into required case management system and assistance with grant reporting. 3. Client referrals to non-legal resources 4. Assisting SLLS Housing Unit attorney’s onsite at Eviction Diversion Desks at First and/or Second City Court in Orleans Parish. 5. Engaging in other community outreach to unstably housed people in the New Orleans service area including resource fairs, city events for tenants, partner resource events, and other community activities. 6. Providing other administrative support functions to the Housing Unit including returning phone calls, creating files, assisting with mail, and other general support.

This selected staff member will work in the SLLS New Orleans office Monday - Friday and/or at courthouse-based eviction desks. This position will be full-time with a salary range of $25,200-$35,600, depending on experience. Additional compensation for bilingualism, commissioned notary, or college degree.
