Deputy General Counsel 1
The Teachers’ Retirement System of Louisiana (TRSL), the state’s largest public retirement system with assets in excess of $25 billion, seeks an experienced professional to serve as Deputy General Counsel 1. This position serves as primary assistant to the Executive Counsel and provides legal support and advice to the Board of Trustees, executive management, and staff. The Deputy General Counsel conducts or coordinates complex legal research and provides legal advice, analysis and opinions to the TRSL Board, Director and staff; manages the legal department’s role in TRSL’s legislative program, including drafting, reviewing, monitoring, and analyzing new legislation affecting TRSL; The Deputy General Counsel oversees all TRSL policy development as it relates to the implementation and interpretation of the Louisiana Revised Statutes setting forth the retirement plan and applicable federal law. In addition, the Deputy General Counsel acts as a legal resource to the public by replying to complex inquiries from employers, employees, legislators, and other public agencies concerning the application of TRSL laws, rules, and policies.
The ideal candidate will have knowledge of applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations; principles and practices of budget administration; and experience directing and supervising staff. Minimum qualifications include a juris doctorate and current membership in the Louisiana State Bar.
The established salary range for the position is $68,057 - $133,931.
