Cage Processing Supervisor

Supervises the daily operation of cage processing areas under the direction of the Facility Manager. Ensures that the processing areas comply with federal animal and research regulations. Maintains daily records pertaining to cage processing. Complies with OSHA standards and other applicable federal and state regulations when working with hazardous chemicals, materials, animals and power equipment. Monitors environmental conditions in cage processing area and inspects the condition of facilities and equipment for cleanliness and proper operation. Trains and supervises cage processing staff. Responsible for providing employee performance evaluations for supervised cage processing staff. Provides input for management of Animal Resources (staffing and practices). Requires little supervision and/or direction.
Perform routine duties associated with cage washing, sanitation, and preparation for use in a research setting including, cage prep, assembly, monitoring equipment for proper function, maintaining sanitary conditions and minor cage maintenance.
Operates cage washers and ensures that equipment is in proper working order. Performs related responsibilities as required.
Employees in this classification may be required to work with, take specific cautions against and/or be immunized against potentially hazardous agents. Required to carry a cell phone and be on after-hours call. Required to work weekend and holiday and emergency work schedule. This position is considered essential personnel.
May be designated as essential personnel during a storm/natural disaster. If required to work during a closure, employee must provide accurate and current contact information and is responsible for maintaining communication with supervisor. Failure to report to work when requested by supervisor will result in disciplinary action as outlined by the Staff Handbook.

Employee attendance must meet established work schedules. Faithfulness in coming to work, being on time, planning absences in advance when possible, and calling in when unavoidably detained from reporting for work is an essential requirement of the job.
