This position is for a licensed mental health provider who has interest and specialization in working in a college counseling center and providing specialized clinical, outreach and training experiences serving diverse populations. Specifically, we are seeking a provider who has specialized training and expertise with the needs of Black/African American, Indigenous, and Persons of Color (BIPOC). Experience and knowledge about the specific developmental, mental health, and academic concerns of BIPOC students is required, and direct clinical experience with these student populations is highly preferred. It is important that this position recognizes the effects that discrimination, prejudice, and systemic oppression has on marginalized individuals, and how these negative biases may lead to psychological trauma and stress.
Time will be spent as follows:
- 65% Counseling/psychotherapy/supervision/crisis.
- 15% Liaison and Outreach with campus partners
- 15% Administration (including 1.0 hour/week staff meeting; 1 hour/week professional development; charting intakes, progress notes, termination summaries; handling telephone calls, snail mail, email, etc.)
Responsibilities
- Provide direct counseling/psychotherapy services (individual, crisis, couples and group treatment) to Union students, primarily focused on supporting students from diverse and BIPOC populations.
- Serve as back-up support for our after-hours on-call system. Provide crisis intervention services via both our daytime crisis system (Counselor of the Day and Crisis Time coverage)
- Support programs and provide outreach for the campus community that dovetail with the broader initiatives within Student Affairs related to inclusivity, diversity and equity.
- Collaborate with the Intercultural Affairs staff to partner with other D&I campus partners to outreach to underserved populations on campus.
- Maintain client records in a timely manner and according to Union College Counseling Center procedures.
- Maintain competency and enhance professional growth and development through continuing education activities.
Required Qualifications
- Licensed (or licensed eligible within 1 year) in the State of New York as an LCSW, LMHC, LMFT, or psychologist.
- Experience providing short and long-term counseling/psychotherapy.
- Experience with crisis intervention.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working on a multi-disciplinary team
- Experience supervising trainees
- Two years experience in university/college counseling center or similar clinical environment.
